what you reading?
Welcome to the conversation.
I’ve got some great reading suggestions from previous what you reading? posts, so I thought I’d let you know once more what I’m reading and hear what you are reading at the moment.
Here’s what I’m reading:
-
The 8th Habit by Stephen Covey
-
Reveal by Greg Hawkins and Cally Parkinson
-
Permission Marketing by Seth Godin
-
The Unexpected Journey by Tom Rainer
-
The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins
Here are some titles I’ve got waiting for me:
-
Post-Christendom by Stuart Murray
-
One From Many by Dee Hock
-
Resourcing Renewal by Martyn Atkins
What I’ll hope to do over the next few days is add a reply to this post saying a little about the books.
So, what are you reading?

THE UNEXPECTED JOURNEY by Thom Rainer
This is twelve stories of people who have begun to follow Christ from as many backgrounds, including Witchcraft, Mormonism, Agnosticism, Atheism, Hinduism, and Islam.
It is not an in-depth study of any of these faith or non-faith positions - simply the stories of people who have made journeys in their lives to find God through Jesus Christ. As such, it is an encouraging and still illuminating read.

I hope to see little comments on the rest of the books.
The past few weeks I’ve read
Hard Optimism
Good By Guilt
Working my way through an Aaron Burr biography and Messy Spirituality.

Thanks for your encouragement, Marty. And thanks for what you’re reading - I like the titles.

REVEAL: WHERE ARE YOU? by Greg Hawkins and Cally Parkinson
This book about a survey comes out of Willow Creek Community Church. With some very honest questions about where its people are, Willow (and a handful of other churches) are surveyed to find out how a person’s heart is growing. There are some interesting things that come out of this, and for me, questions about the challenge that goes out to the more mature but dissatisfied in our churches.

Since starting at Word of Life I decided to read some of Steven Masood’s writing again. “Into the Light - a young Muslim’s search for truth is about his journey.
Also reading - dipping into - a few short books by Henri Nouwen.

Thanks, Peter.
Steve’s books certainly give important insights to what it means for someone to come to faith in Christ. I have read a couple of his, including the one that follows up the one you have read. One particularly telling thing he shares is that he is a Christian and Moslem and his faith is Islam, meaning a Muslim is someone surrendered to God - and he is through Christ, and his faith - or way of life - is Islam (’More Than Conquerors’).

Marty, tell me a little more about the three books you mention (I haven’t been able to find ‘Good By Guilt). I like the ‘Messy Spirituality’ title.

THE 8TH HABIT by Stephen Covey
This is a read that fits in well with helping people and groups identify what they are made to do - to find their “voice”.
I happened to be reading it alongside Robert Mulholland’s ‘Shaped by the Word’ and Erwin McManus’s ‘Stand Against the Wind’, offering an business perspective on character-led purpose and effectiveness.
It comes will a helpful DVD of short films.

Still trying to get into Divine Conspiracy here. All reading was dropped for a few months as we moved. And I’ve still got a few books to go of the ‘bible in a year’, which is now a 14 month year!

Hi Fiona,
I hope you soon get into a rythym that matches your heart.
Have you ever tried turning over just one page in a day - just to sense movement?
