a larger life

Welcome to the conversation.
I’ve returned to the scriptures I was reflecting on yesterday and the renewed call from Jesus to Peter to follow him.
Erwin McManus writes of the call: This is the sticky part of the barbarian call. It is not fair or equitable. … He is not calling you to the same life […]

Welcome to the conversation.
My big read for this year is David Bosch’s Transforming Mission which I’ve had for over seven years now but never read.
I’m enjoying it, just turning a page a day will mean it’s going to be in the background to everything else I’m reading through the biggest part of this year.
As Bosch […]

Welcome to the conversation.
I began today with Matthew 26:31-46, in which Jesus tells the disciples they are going to desert him and Peter that he is going to deny him.
Such is the leadership in waiting for a new movement hours before Jesus is crucified.
We are vulnerable people, fragile in our faith, we “fall to pieces” […]

the ultimate paradigm?

Welcome to the conversation.
I like the way Eugene Peterson pulls out some of the meaning of Matthew’s account of Jesus sending out the disciples in The Message - (Matthew 10:5-16).
Jesus is saying to the disciples: You don’t need a lot of equipment. You are the equipment.
When I increasingly live my life in step with […]

Welcome to the conversation.
Here’s an image a friend sent me after one of my recent ‘new terrain …’ post and I thought it would be good for a caption competition.
Over to you.

terraining

Welcome to the conversation.
I’ve just run one of the new running routes, mentioned in my last post: this time the other way around. So, here are a few thoughts that emerged for me:

The new terrain for me means steeper hills, but today I ran up the not-so-steep way, rather than the really steep way.

Just […]

new terrain …

Welcome to the conversation.
New terrain … new train.
At least that’s my thinking after a attempting two new running routes. Before Christmas and New Year I completed a number of half-marathon routes. I decided to drop the distances way down for January and February so I have chosen some rougher and steeper terrain.
Near to […]

imagineering

Welcome to the conversation.
I’ve just read how Disney has a head of Imagineering.
I love that.
I admit others will not.
They are probably in the Engineering side of things - getting things done.
But the two must “hold hands.”
They need each other.
For many churches, this is undiscovered country.
Undiscovered doesn’t mean that it’s not real though.

defining gospel

Friday, January 11th, 2008

Welcome to the conversation.
I am involved in a number of conversations that are directly or indirectly asking “What is the gospel?”
Have a look at this definition from Scot McKnight: the gospel is the work of God, in the context of community, to restore Eikons to union with God and communion with others and the world, […]

not a christian?

Welcome to the conversation.
I am reading The Barbarian Way by Erwin McManus for the fourth time.  I forget so much and need to be reminded of what it is to be a follower of Jesus Christ.
Here is a description of an uncivilised disciple altered so that it appears in the first person: Jesus Christ, you […]
